Jameh Mosque of Isfahan is a UNESCO World Heritage site with an elegant Mihrab and marvelous domes. It is also known as Atiq and Jome Mosque. This old mosque has four Iwan plan and considered as one of the prominent samples of Islamic architecture of Seljuqs, Mongol and Safavid eras. Architecture
You can see four Iwans in the Sahn (courtyard) of Jameh Mosque that is the prominent features of Islamic mosque planning. Iwan is the entrance structure of traditional places. Muqarnas is the fabulous ornamentation that used to decorate these four Iwans. It is better to know that the interior design of Sahn in Jameh Mosque, and probably the minarets date back to the 9th century. Different part of Jameh Mosque are as follows:

- Shabestan
Shabestan is a space like a hall in old places. The Shabestan of Jameh Mosque is based on circular pillars that decorated with beautiful stucco. This part dates back to the Daylamites.
- Dome
This dome lies above the southern Iwan. This brick dome was constructed in the Seljuqs era and known as Khaje Nizam al-Mulk dome. This dome is a beautiful combination of brick and plaster. Moreover, there is another dome above the northern Iwan, which dates back to the Seljuqs era.
- Öljaitü Mosque
On the northwest of the mosque, in a small Shabestan, you will see an elaborate stucco Mihrab that is known as Sultan Öljaitü Mihrab. Mihrab is a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque. The other marvelous part of this area that amazes you is a wood carving Minbar. Minbar is an Islamic architectural element like a pulpit in the mosque.

- Winter Shabestan
As following Öljaitü Mosque, you will reach to a Shabestan with short thick columns. This part dates back to the Timurid Empire. In the middle of each vault, there is a transparent marble that supplies the light.

What is the best time to go?
Isfahan is situated in the central part of Iran with a dry and hot climate. Late March till late May is the best time to see Isfahan that is known as half of the world.

Jameh Mosque of Isfahan is located Ghiyam Square, Allameh Majlesi Street, Isfahan Province. To reach there you can use taxi calls. Call number 133, after declaring your position, a taxi will be provided at your place after a few minutes.
